My friends who travel across country to get together. My friends who I see weekly, monthly or once every few years. But it won’t be to hear Livin’ on a Prayer for the millionth time, it will be to spend time with my friends. I’ve been beyond blessed to have made countless friends through Bon Jovi and that is what I value more right now than the next album or tour (or what certain song lyrics may or may not mean).ĭon’t get me wrong, I’ll still go see the band. Whether that be school, sports, work or music. Throughout every single human beings life, they make friends through their activities and interests. The friendships that I’ve made all over the world through this band and that play a major role in my life today and will always do. What it has become more about to me is the friends. The past few albums have not held up to the stellar quality of their earlier/mid career albums. When I think about how much money I’ve spent being a Jovi fan, I can sometimes feel a little bit queasy.īut, in 100% honesty, it stopped being about the songs, and to a certain extent, the band, a few years ago. I’ve traveled the world to see the band play. I knew about three songs, but my life changed forever that night. I’ve been a fan since I was taken to my first concert in 1989. Either way…I will Always be a Bon Jovi fan, but what shape that fandom takes may change. It’s pretty clear that the core of the band has changed forever, so what will this next era of Bon Jovi sound like? Will it sound like Jon Bon Jovi and Friends or will they find a new sound that will keep them going for another number of years?Įither way…I’m really not fussed. It certainly did get me thinking about this band that I love, that has severely impacted my life, that has changed who I am as a person, and what that might mean for the future. Some if took my viewpoint of ‘seriously…there are bigger things to worry about’ and some waded in waist deep and had a good old swim around in what the lyrics mean or who they are aimed at. I’m not going into the details of the drama in this post, there would be few in my Jovi circle of friends that aren’t aware of it at some level. (I say ‘new’ because they aren’t all newly recorded tracks, and therefore I don’t consider it a new album). This week in Jovi fan world saw a great broohaha about lyrics to the title song of a ‘new’ album that is going to be released shortly. Healthy debate and discussion is encouraged but please be nice to each other, otherwise I will delete comments. I’m writing this to say something that I want to say and just put out there to the universe. Whether you agree or disagree, I’m not writing this to start a debate or get into an argument. I’m going to preface this entire blog post by saying that blog posts are meant to be a vehicle for a person to express their personal views.
